there is something about this metal form that remains that I find incredibly tender

It's as much a sculpture as a vessel

very finely carved on all sides and stained a terrific near-black

Earlyish 20th century I would think, and in great condition. The lid slides on; it is not threaded. 4" tall x 2 1 8" in diameter.
